Engagement in the Digital Age: International Conference on Language Teaching and Learning, organized by the Language Centre of Hong Kong Baptist University, highlights the crucial role of engagement in determining the success of language teaching and learning. It focuses on different facets of engagement, such as its social, cognitive, behavioural, and affective dimensions. These dimensions synergize to enhance the overall language learning experience, resulting in positive outcomes for students. With technological advancement such as AI, it becomes imperative to understand how technology enhances engagement by providing interactive and personalized learning experiences, fostering collaboration and communication, and offering immediate feedback, and how the interplay between technology and pedagogy can maximize language learning outcomes while promoting equity, diversity, and inclusivity within our educational system.ObjectivesThe objective of this conference is to provide a platform for meaningful discourse on the topic of engagement in language teaching and learning in diverse linguistic settings. We aim to bring together practitioners, researchers, teacher trainers, technology specialists and policymakers to explore strategies for engagement and shed light on its significance in facilitating higher education language learning. We hope that through the conference, we are able to promote student and teacher engagement, showcase expertise in language teaching, foster global collaboration, highlight effective (digital) strategies, and influence policies to enhance language learning in the digital age. It would be intriguing to explore the various interpretations and manifestations of engagement across different contexts, and examine how engagement is defined, measured, and assessed to enrich the literature.Conference HighlightsKeynote speeches delivered by distinguished experts in language teaching, learning, and technologyExhibitions displaying latest language learning technologies, software, and educational resourcesOpportunities for interaction, exchange of ideas, and collaboration through networking sessions and social eventsAwards given to acknowledge student engagementPublication opportunities in conference proceedings or affiliated journals for wide dissemination of ideas, research findings and insights
