2.INSECTS & FLOWERS DISH WATCH



Get your special someone the gift of time – one that is classic and stands out from the crowd. This design is inspired by the Insects & Flowers Dish, a collection of the Asian Civilisations Museum. This copper dish is painted in enamels, with a central medallion containing finely rendered insects and flowers surroundedby a pale-blue pattern of interlocking shapes.

3.APRICOT BLOSSOMS WATCH
Get your special someone the gift of time – one that is classic and stands out from the crowd. This design is inspired by one of Wu Changshuo’s paintings (1844-1927), Apricot Blossoms, a collection of the Asian Civilisations Museum. Wu’s paintings were an extension of his mastery of seal carving and various seal scripts in calligraphy. The apricot tree in bloom in this painting is an auspicious symbol of beauty and fertility. Auspicious subject matter painted in bright colours was popular among merchants in Shanghai in the 19th century. These were easily understood by the public, and the paintings were used as gifts for many occasions. 4.BOTTLE DECORATED WITH SEVEN SAGES WATCH

This bottle, a collection of the Asian Civilisations Museum features the Seven Sages in the Bamboo Grove, a traditional motif that represents the ideal lifestyle for the Chinese literati, the scholars and elite of society in Imperial China. The bottle, with a thickened ring around its neck, is modelled after the surahi, an Indian form, then used in 16th-century ceramics made in Iznik, Turkey. The form became popular in the mid-17th century in Jingdezhen, China, a major centre for porcelain production.The bottle is part of the Living with Ink: The Collection of Dr Tan Tsze Chor* at the Asian Civilisations Museum where it explores Dr Tan Tsze Chor’s art collection in the 20th century.

2.HUNDRED ANTIQUITIES MOTIFS ECO BAG


Show that you care for the environment this Christmas! This есо bag is inspired by themotifs of the Blue and White Jar with Cover from the collection of the Asian Civilisations Museum. Auspicious Hundred  Antiquities(bogu) motifs, and triple-gourds with floral scrolls signifying fertility decorate this large jar. The body is decorated with scenes of battle andglory likely inspired by woodblock illustrations ofpopular stories of Xue Rengui, a famous Tangdynasty general who  served in the reigns ofemperors Taizong (626--49)  and  Gaozong(649--83).

3.FIGURES IN A LANDSCAPE ECO BAG
Show that you care for the environment this Christmas! This eco bag is inspired by the motifs of the Figures in landscape painting, a collection of the Asian Civilisations Museum. Pu Ru (1896–1963) was a painter and a scholarartist. A member of the imperial family, Pu Ru refined his painting and calligraphy by copying masterpieces in the imperial collection. In this painting, he displays his mastery of textured strokes (cunfa) in recreating the trees, rocks, and boulders of the world of the scholarrecluse.The painting is part of the Living with Ink: The Collection of Dr Tan Tsze Chor* at the Asian Civilisations Museum where it explores Dr Tan Tsze Chor’s art collection in the 20th century.

2.SINGAPORE FROM THE ROCKY POINT TEATOWEL

This drawing by John Michael Houghton is probably the earliest surviving drawing of Singapore, depicting the scene of the British East India Company fleet’s first arrival on 28 January 1819. Drawn from the Rocky Point at the river mouth near where the Fullerton Hotel is situated today, this view shows a sizable settlement at the foot of the hill (Fort Canning today), with ships anchored at the harbour.Sure to be a conversation starter, it is a perfect gift idea for your loved one! 3.INDIAE ORIENTALS MAP PLATE


Feeling peckish during tea-time? Get a plate to lay out some sweet treats while you wind down after all the Christmas shopping and visiting. The plate’s design is inspired by a map from An Old New World: From the East Indies to the Founding of Singapore,1600s-1819** exhibition by the National Museum of Singapore. Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was a Flemish cartographer whose Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Theatre of the World) was regarded as the first modern Atlas. In this 1570 map, the Malay Peninsula appears as an elongated extension of mainland Southeast Asia, and Singapore as an appendix, marked Cincapura, with a cluster of islets.

As it was common practice for the time, the map also has illustrations of mermaids and imaginary sea creatures. Sure to be a conversation starter, it is a perfect gift idea for your loved one!

Living with Ink: The Collection of Dr Tan Tsze Chor is on from 8 November 2019 to 22 March 2020 at ACM from 10am to 7pm daily and on Fridays from 10am to 9pm. 


An Old New World: From the East Indies to the Founding of Singapore, 1600s – 1819 is on from 21 September 2019 to 29 March 2020 at NMS from 10am to 7pm daily.
